The Unusual on Rue Montagne aux Herbes Potagères 49 started as a cafe. Then we added a bar. Then people started staying later. Then we added a DJ booth. Then a stage. Then a disco ball. And now, we're one of the most interesting spots for drinks in Brussels city centre. Two minutes from Grand Place, right next to Central Station — and a whole lot more fun than most bars near Bourse.

Our craft beer selection is built around Belgian breweries. We pour local beer on tap that rotates regularly — blondes, IPAs, stouts, tripels — and our bottle list covers styles you wont find at tourist traps. We've also got a solid cider selection for people who want something crisp and different. Wines too. And the prices? Fair. Always fair.

DRINKS & DEALS

Our happy hour specials have become a thing for office workers around De Brouckère and the EU Quarter. Finish work, walk five minutes, and you're at the bar with a discounted Belgian beer. Simple. Our after work specials run during the week because winding down shouldn't cost as much as the workday itself. And if you want to learn how to make drinks instead of just ordering them, our mixology classes are a hit for groups — birthdays, team events, hen parties, whatever.

MUSIC & NIGHTLIFE

Weekends at The Unusual get loud. Our DJ nights turn the upstairs into a proper party — live DJ in the booth, disco ball spinning, dance floor full of people. We've had house, afrobeats, disco, techno — it depends on the night and the DJ. Check our Instagram for the schedule.

Our live music events are just as popular. Jam sessions with musicians from Matonge and Saint-Gilles. Booked acts on our stage. Open mic nights where anyone can perform — singers, poets, comedians, guitarists. Brussels is full of hidden talent and our stage gives them a spotlight.

For nightlife events in general, we're one of the few spots near Grand Place that feels personal. No waiting in line, no 15-euro drinks, no bouncers. Just good music, good drinks, and a crowd thats there to have fun.

EVENTS & PARTIES

We host themed parties throughout the year — Halloween, Christmas, retro nights, tropical parties. The upstairs space transforms completely and people go all out with costumes. Last Halloween sold out. The Christmas party had people dressed as elves. We love it.

For private event hosting, the space works perfectly. Birthday parties, corporate events, engagement celebrations — up to 150 people with DJ booth, stage, and full bar. Bring your own decorations and caterer. We handle the drinks and the space.

We also do bar crawl events — or rather, a lot of bar crawls start (or end) here. Tour groups, Erasmus students, stag parties. Rue Montagne aux Herbes Potagères is the perfect launch point before heading to Sainte-Catherine or Saint-Géry.

BEER CULTURE

Our brewery collaborations bring exclusive pours, tap takeovers, and tasting events with Belgian craft breweries. The brewer often comes in person to talk about their beers. Beer lovers from Uccle to Jette to Etterbeek show up because they know they'll taste something unique.

And yes, we've got outdoor seating. The terrace on Rue Montagne aux Herbes Potagères works just as well for an evening drink as it does for a morning coffee. Grab a beer, watch Brussels walk by, let the evening happen.
