ICED COFFEE IN BRUSSELS

Brussels gets warm — maybe not every day, but when it does, you want an iced coffee that actually tastes like coffee. Not a cup of ice with some brown water. At The Unusual on rue Montagne aux Herbes Potagères, 49, Bruxelles, we make our iced coffee with the same specialty beans we use for everything else.

Heres how we do it: a double shot of espresso, cooled properly, poured over ice, topped with your choice of milk. Simple, right? But the details matter. We use the right ratio of coffee to ice so your drink doesnt turn into flavoured water after five minutes. And the espresso is pulled fresh — same Wide Awake Coffee beans as our hot drinks.

When the sun comes out in Brussels, our iced coffee becomes the most popular order. People walking from Grand Place, tourists coming from Mont des Arts, locals from Saint-Géry ducking in for something cold — everyone wants one. We also do iced lattes, iced americanos, and iced versions of some specialty drinks like matcha latte.

Milk wise: dairy, oat, coconut, Alpro 'Not Milk'. Oat milk iced latte is a particular favourite around here. The sweetness of the oat milk with cold espresso over ice — really good.
