CAPPUCCINO IN BRUSSELS
A cappuccino is one of those drinks where you can really tell if a cafe knows what they're doing. Too much foam, it's basically a cloud with no coffee. Too little, it's just a latte. At The Unusual on rue Montagne aux Herbes Potagères, 49, Bruxelles, we do it the right way.
Our cappuccino starts with a double shot pulled from Wide Awake Coffee beans — rich, full-flavoured, with a nice crema on top. Then our baristas steam the milk to that perfect microfoam texture — silky, velvety, just thick enough to hold a pattern. Thats where the latte art comes in, but honestly the taste matters more than the heart shape.
We get a ton of people asking "where's the best cappuccino near Grand Place?" or "good cappuccino in Brussels city centre?" and we think the answer is sitting on rue Montagne aux Herbes Potagères. A lot of our regulars — people who live around Marollen or work near Bourse — order the same cappuccino every morning. When someone orders the same drink for months, that tells you something.
You can get your cappuccino with regular dairy, oat milk, coconut milk, or Alpro 'Not Milk'. Oat milk makes a surprisingly good cappuccino — the natural sweetness pairs really nice with our espresso blends. But dairy is classic for a reason. Whatever you pick, its the same price.
WHY CHOOSE THE UNUSUAL
Best combo in the house? A cappuccino with a fresh croissant. Croissants arrive every morning, still warm. The buttery pastry with a creamy cappuccino — its a Brussels morning done right. Some people go for a cookie instead. Also works.
We're two minutes from Central Station and a short walk from Grand Place. Open every day. No reservations, no fuss. Just come in, order a cappuccino, and enjoy it. At The Unusual, we keep things simple and we keep them good.
